How to Spend Emeralds in Hero Wars

Note: If you're going to spend (a lot of) emeralds, only doing it during a special event is going to be the most efficient. Some events are more efficient than others, so pay attention to my channel to figure out which events are the most efficient, and which events are horribly inefficient!

Table of Contents

The Day 1 Best Place to Spend Emeralds

When you first start an account, you're going to get through the first chapter of the campaign. You're going to get to the final boss of chapter 1, the Arch Demon.Whenever you defeat him for the first time, it's going to unlock this fun little unique event that only lasts 12 hours! Your 12-hour mission, if you choose to accept it, is to complete missions and get Soul Stones for the hero Arachne.

The hero Arachne is one of the most important heroes in the game. She has the ability to control the enemy team in a way that not many other heroes can, through many stun abilities. She's great in many teams, but those focused on control and those that don't necessarily support her abilities. She can also serve as a tank when fully leveled, which could save you resources on other tanks.

The idea is to spend any available emeralds on ENERGY, to do more and more campaign missions, to acquire more Arachne soul stones, and this serves two purposes:

First of all, she's a GREAT hero from early game all the way to the top of the Arena, Guild Wars, and Clash of Worlds.

Secondly, if you can get her to 6 Star/Absolute Star (this requires 630 soul stones), it will unlock the Soul Coin shop at the merchant. This will be important later on, and MUCH more difficult to unlock after this first promotion ends. You will need about 3800 energy to get to 630 Soul Stones.

The Best Place to Spend Emeralds Day to Day

Buy Items from Tower Chests

Ranking up a hero's color rank will require you to collect many items, found in several locations (but by far the most common is the Campaign). How do you get items from the campaign? You have to spend campaign energy. Thousands and thousands and thousands (millions?) of energy. How do you get energy? It adds up passively over time, or you can buy more.

So is buying Energy the best place to spend emeralds? NO!

The best place, in my opinion, to spend emeralds on items is in the tower. This might not be obvious at first, but if there is an item (randomly) that you need, it's MUCH more efficient than farming that item in the campaign.

For 50 emeralds (or 100 if you have to open both) you can guarantee yourself 3 items that you need. Just make sure you actually need the item before you spend the emeralds!

At higher tower levels, the emerald cost goes up to 100 per chest, but the reward goes up to 7 items!

Spending those same emeralds on energy, and then using that energy to do missions in the campaign, will result in a random chance to acquire those item pieces. You might get 3 or 7 items by spending 50 or 100 emeralds worth of energy, but VERY likely you will not.

Buying energy Beyond a certain point becomes less efficient, so buying items from the tower chests is an incredibly efficient use of emeralds.

Buy Campaign Energy

As we've already established, the sheer quantity of Campaign Energy you need for each hero will number in the millions! You use this energy to farm items in the campaign, to raise the color rank of your team of heroes.

The second most-efficient way to acquire color-rank items is by buying campaign energy.

Everyday I buy energy until the emerald cost goes up to 150. At 50 or 100 emeralds, the 120 energy is a GREAT value; at 150 emeralds its still good, but CONSIDERABLY less of an efficient buy.

Reset the Shops at the Merchant

Continuing our discussion of leveling up a hero's color rank, you can buy items from the various shops (Arena, Outland, Friendship, etc).

Buying things from the shops will require the currency for that particular shop. For example, the Tower Shop will require Tower Coins. Obviously Tower Coins do not equal emeralds, but what's often forgotten is that you can reset the shops! Buy out the shop of whatever items you need, and then spin the shop for 50 emeralds. This will give you an opportunity to buy items again; 50 emeralds effectively allows you to use MORE of a currency that you may have an excessive amount of.

Eventually, the cost of resetting the shop will go up to 90 emeralds, and I would not recommend going beyond that. This is by far the cheapest way to purchase items for your heroes, but the shop's contents are random. This is why I mentioned it third after the buying energy and buying items from the tower chests.

Open Additional Outland Chests

The next largest quantity of currency you'll need to level your heroes/titans/pets is skin stones. Each hero will eventually have 5-6 (or more skins), and those skins will require 250,000 skin stones.

This means that each team of 5 heroes will require over 1 million skin stones!

Let's start with the Outland Shop: just like we discussed previously, you can buy skin Stone chests and then reset the outland Shop.

The bulk of your skin stones (and Outland Coins) will be found in Outland. Every day you'll be able to claim Outland Rewards (and spend emeralds to open addition Outland Chests). Not only is this one of the best ways to spend emeralds overall, but it's also the first place that you want to spend a bulk lot of emeralds (if there is an event that you really really really want to maximize).

Every day you'll be able to open a few Outland chests for 90 emeralds each, and then for 200 emeralds each. After 200 emeralds spend it doesn't necessarily become less efficient, it just becomes a large amount of emeralds to spend at once without a "spend emeralds" task/event active at the same time.

The Best Place to Spend A LOT of Emeralds (during an event ONLY!)

If you do happen to have several thousand emeralds, and you're looking for the best places to spend A LOT of emeralds (5k or more), PLEASE remember to ONLY spend this amount DURING an event you can get double benefit from!

Outland Chests

While you do need more Campaign Energy than you do Skin Stones, energy becomes less efficient the more you buy whereas Outland Chests stay the same price! You need millions of Campaign Energy, and you need millions of Skin Stones.

Additionally, over half of the events in Hero Wars have a task to open Outland Chests; this will allow you to effectively "triple dip" the spend!

The other category of things that you should spend emeralds on and that is the best thing to spend emeralds on if you're trying to spend a lot of emeralds if you're trying to spend a ton of emeralds during an event to complete the event these are the things that I would recommend and only these things I already mentioned the Outland chest okay definitely open up a bunch of Outland chests every single day most

Titan Totems

Unfortunately, the single most efficient (and expensive) thing in this game to spend Emeralds on is at the Altar of the Elements trying to earn Elemental Spirit Totem Fragments.

These are a point of contention in the Hero Wars community as it represents the a large cost of 8.5 million emeralds, and yet the rewards are random!

The Titan totems assist your Titans in battle in Guild War, in Clash of Worlds, in the Dungeon, and in Tournament of the Elements. You can spend emeralds to actually level up the totems but it quickly becomes very expensive.

The big thing is the Alter of the Elements, or as I'd like to call them: "Big Money Blue Balls!"

We can go into a whole conversation about Bad Luck Protection, we can go into a whole conversation about which totems to choose if you had the opportunity to choose, but the bad news is is this is random.... and the drop rate percentage of getting totem fragments out of the Altar of the Elements is not published anywhere.

The main thing that you need to know, is the bad luck protection to guarantee getting totem fragments tells us the total amount of emeralds that you will eventually need to spend on the Altar of the Elements. And that number is 8.4 million emeralds. That seems like a big number, and it is a big number. That's a lot of money, a lot of emeralds to spend in one place, and that's going to get you 30 totem fragments.

There are five elements to Titans (Water Fire Earth Darkness and Light) and they each have six fragments, and it's all given to you at random (with very very very very rare exception) If you're trying to get all of the totems maxed out, you will need to spend 8.4 million emeralds. If you're trying to collect and level only specific totems, you still will very likely have to spend all 8.4 million emeralds (depending on how bad your luck is!).

Now the problem with the Altar of the Elements is it's not fun. You're not getting any visceral gain, you're not getting a lot of traction in your team's power level. For example if I spent all 73,000 emeralds I had, I still wouldn't have enough to get my bad luck protection to get the next totem fragment. Yes I'm getting a ton of artifact pieces, tons of artifact fragments to level up my titan artifacts. But it doesn't feel good, it doesn't feel as good as spending emeralds on skin stones, or leveling up your hero's color rank to Red, but this is going to be the most efficient long-term and the biggest place that you're going to be spending emeralds on as you play Hero Wars into the future.

Hero Ascension

The last thing that you can spend your emeralds on is Hero Ascension via the Astral Seer. The reason why I use this last is because it's so Random!

The whole City of Asgard Ascension system is a huge random reward mess; you have seven Insignia, one for each class (Warrior, Healer, Tank, etc). There are two tiers of these seven insignia. Then, each hero has crystals that are also required and there are 3 types of those (agility, strength, intelligence). There are 3 tiers of those 3 crystals!

The Astral Seer is a roulette wheel of sorts where you can get a bunch of different kinds of rewards but the sheer quantity of rewards that are available in here makes it so that it's hard to be targeted and specific. In the long term of Hero Wars this ends up being one of the biggest time gates for building Heroes. For Titans it's the totem system, for Heroes it's this Insignia and crystals system. So eventually you're not going to have anything to spend emeralds on but the Astral Seer and/or the Altar of the Elements. The one thing I would say about this is that there is ONE event that wants you to spin the Astral Seer AND ALSO has a spend emeralds task. Additionally the Daily Double will give you a higher chance to earn specific crystals and insignia. If you can line up that event task AND the Daily Double that most benefits you, it's a really great place to spend emeralds! But even then it's mostly random.

Why I Don't Spend Emeralds Anywhere Else

Spending Emeralds on Other Hero Stats?

Glyphs

If you're in a good guild a guild that's active every day, you will get PLENTY of runes to level up your hero's glyphs.

It's not efficient at all to spend emeralds on Glyphs

Gift of the Elements

As you level up your titans you will get PLENTY of Sparks of Power, and then you just need to add gold.

It's not efficient at all to spend emeralds on the Gift of the Elements.

Artifacts

Completing all of your expeditions every day will reward you with 3-4 Artifact chest keys and a TON of artifact currencies both to level up your artifacts and evolve them to 6stars.

It's only efficient to spend emeralds on Artifact Chests during an event that wants you to open a bunch of Artifact Chests.

Ascension

I'll discuss hero ascension later on in the blog, but the short answer is it's WAY too random to be efficient.

It's only efficient to spend emeralds on the Astral Seer during an event that wants you to open a bunch of Astral Seer spins.

Spending Emeralds on Pets?

The Short answer is: NO!

I don't want you to spend any emeralds opening pet summoning eggs; you get plenty by doing Adventures, you get plenty by doing activities and events elsewhere, do not spend emeralds doing this.

You do have an opportunity to spend emeralds to charge pet gems, but I'd still not recommend it. It's seven emeralds per chaos particle, and it doesn't get more or less efficient as far as a value. You just don't get much out of it, and you will passively over time get plenty of chaos particles to level up all of the pets that you need.

Spending Emeralds on Titans?

The short answer is: only at low levels

Taking a look at Titans, You Can level up a Titan's level with emeralds; this is absolutely horrible, horrible efficiency! you will get more Titan XP potions than you know what to do with. I do not recommend it.

For the Skins, I do not recommend it either. The Skins do not apply as much value as the game tries to make you think it does. A fully maxed out skin doesn't have that much impact on a majority of the battles in Titan fighting (yes it does have an impact but not as much as you think).

Titan artifacts, same conversation. You can level them up with emeralds if you would like, I just wouldn't recommend it.

If you have a brand new level one Titan, the leveling of the Titan itself is super inexpensive and if you're in a hurry to get that Titan leveled up, maybe, but even then you just get so many Titan XP potions just by naturally playing the game I don't think that it's a good value whatsoever.
